Daybreak At the Races 48x30x1.5 Acrylic on canvas
Have you ever looked out at the water and into the sky right when the sun is trying to break through the heaviness Of morning? You know that crack of brilliant golden or white light right under a really grey part of the sky.
That’s what I was thinking about when I painted this.
At this daybreak, the sun comes up but then there’s so much fog in the sky. So the sun comes up and then a t a certain point – where you see the opulent gold – it goes behind the cloudy fog.
Through the cracks in the clouds you see the sun’s first rays of the morning. I see a sky like this every morning when I drive over Tampa Bay. That’s why it’s so nice to live by the water.
I would describe the sky as soothing with moody brushstrokes of blues, bronzes, whites and gold. The composition is simplistic with clean lines and royal colors.
