Description

Low Tide At The Races, 48×36 Acrylic, was painted with the vision to show the ground and sand reflecting the sky at low tide.  Using a limited color palette to create a mood that mimics cooler weather and a northern feel a palette knife was used to create the masts of the sailboats and the flock of seagulls. It takes two carefully placed swipes of the palette knife to create each bird… and over 40 years of painting experience. Little sailboats were painted towards the middle because it’s low tide in the foreground adding movement to the painting!

Just as the boats move rapidly across the water, a flock of birds stirrers above. Strikingly, all of the boats are lined up as they compete, each experiencing the same conditions and sea as all the others. As Jacques Yves Cousteau wrote: “The sea, the great unifier, is man’s only hope. Now, as never before, the old phrase has a literal meaning: we are all in the same boat.”
