Be Still

Product Description

Be Still is an original mixed media painting created from my deep connection to water, place, and shared creative experience. Painted beside a flowing river in Conifer, Colorado during a Creative Genius Zone retreat, the work emerged through movement, conversation, and the quiet presence of nature.

Water has always found its way into my work—even in the mountains—and here it becomes both subject and feeling. The surface holds the rhythm of the river, layered with reflective passages and softened edges that invite stillness rather than demand attention. The colors echo the landscape that shaped me in my twenties, when I lived in Colorado for a decade and developed a palette rooted in earth, sky, and shifting light.

Following the retreat, the painting was continued in the outdoor studio of a dear artist friend, a master printmaker, in Denver. Surrounded by fresh air, natural light, and a circle of thoughtful women, the piece absorbed the energy of community and shared intention. You can feel that presence in the way the water moves—grounded, expansive, and quietly alive.

Be Still holds space for pause. It offers a moment of calm shaped by landscape, memory, and the collective energy of women creating together.

Provenance

Be Still was begun in Conifer, Colorado, painted plein air beside a river during a Creative Genius Zone retreat. The work was shaped in real time through nature, conversation, and shared creative presence.

Following the retreat, the painting was continued and refined in the outdoor studio of a fellow artist and master printmaker in Denver, where natural light and open air guided the final layers. Created through a blend of site-specific painting, community energy, and studio refinement, the work reflects both place and collective experience.
