This oil-on-canvas artwork, created over 30 years ago, holds a significant place in the my personal collection. Produced during a pivotal period in my career while studying art in my twenties, the piece embodies a time of substantial creative growth and exploration. I worked in a charming studio alongside a group of talented peers, drawing deep inspiration from a memorable journey my parents undertook along the Norwegian coast.

My parents’ voyage, which traversed from Bergen to Nordkapp aboard a coastal steamer, was characterized by breathtaking landscapes and captivating stories. The Norwegian concept of koselig, reflecting a sense of coziness and warmth, had a profound impact on my artistic approach. While the rich textures of the oil paint—sometimes as thick as a quarter inch—may not be fully captured in images, the artwork strives to convey the intimate and inviting atmosphere of that journey.

The piece holds substantial personal value for my family. It is one of her sons’ most cherished works, evoking fond memories of a family trip to Finland, where they enjoyed a similarly picturesque outdoor meal in the Arctic Circle. This work represents both a significant moment in my artistic development and a treasured family memory.
