End of Sailing Camp was inspired by one of my daily bike rides to the Safety Harbor waterfront. As I arrived by the water, sailing camp was wrapping up for the day. Small boats were returning to shore, sails catching the last light of the afternoon, and the quiet rhythm of the harbor was settling back in.
What first caught my attention were the brilliant colors of blue, red, and white reflected across the water and sails. The scene was filled with movement—the wind in the sails, the ripples in the harbor, and the reflections dancing across the surface of the water.
Then I noticed a grandfather helping his grandson pull a small sailboat onto the trailer. It was such a simple moment, but it carried a sense of care, patience, and shared experience. The quiet act of helping, guiding, and finishing the day together felt timeless.
As I painted this piece, I wanted the energy of the colors to echo the joy of being out on the water while allowing the human connection to remain at the heart of the scene. The deep blues of the sky and harbor, the bold red and white sails, and the dark silhouette of the figures create a moment that feels both vibrant and reflective.
This painting reflects the spirit of coastal life in Safety Harbor—the beauty of everyday moments, the traditions passed between generations, and the enduring pull of the water.
