Stillness Before the Wind

 A mixed media sailboat painting that explores the quiet tension between movement and pause. A line of white sails rests gently on luminous turquoise water, suspended beneath sweeping, layered clouds that feel both protective and expansive.

Painted intuitively, this work reflects my ongoing exploration of atmosphere and repetition. The sailboats are not racing; they are waiting. Their reflections ripple softly across the surface, creating a rhythm that draws the eye horizontally across the canvas. 

The sky carries depth and motion, while the water holds calm clarity — a dialogue between energy and stillness.

Subtle tonal shifts of sea-green, violet, and soft gold create a sense of inner light emerging through the clouds. The repetition of forms becomes meditative, almost like breath. It is less about nautical realism and more about emotional landscape.

Water has always been central to my practice. Even when the sea is calm, there is current beneath the surface. This painting lives in that space — the moment just before wind fills the sails.
