Movement, uncertainty, and resolve live at the heart of The Shift: Sailboats at Sea, a mixed media sailboat painting shaped by trust in process and the quiet intelligence of the canvas itself. When I step into a new work, I ask the surface what it wants to reveal. What unfolds is often unexpected—ecstatic, illuminating, and alive.
This piece emerged through a series of directional changes, much like navigating open water. Early layers dissolved as black tissue paper tore across the surface, clearing space for something new to appear. In that moment, the sailboats surfaced—righting themselves, adjusting their course, and moving forward through subtle shifts of perspective and balance.
There is a rhythm to discovering when a painting resists and when it opens. Navigating that tension—between uncertainty and clarity—is where the work finds its strength. The sailboats carry this energy: resilient, fluid, and responsive to the conditions around them. Each adjustment becomes part of the story, revealing beauty through persistence rather than control.
This work belongs to an ongoing sailboat collection exploring navigation, resilience, and the quiet poetry of motion across water.
Elements of this piece were shaped during live studio moments shared inside the Creative Genius Zone, where intuition, movement, and presence quietly guide the work forward.
