Collaborazione Velatura Sunset

Collaborazione Velatura Sunset is an original mixed media sailboat painting created through an international collaboration rooted in intuition, shared authorship, and place. Movement, light, and layered memory guide the composition, evoking the quiet power of sunset as sailboats drift toward the horizon.

The work began in my classroom in Tampa, Florida, where a large canvas was painted abstractly by eight children under the guidance of three artists—myself, Barbara Pastorino of Milan, and Ruth Christensen of the United Kingdom. That early stage established the energetic foundation of the piece: open, playful, and instinctive.

The original canvas was then divided into three equal panels—one for each artist—allowing the collaboration to continue both collectively and individually. My panel traveled to the Safety Harbor waterfront, where I participated in a live plein-air painting session alongside my collaborators, responding directly to the shifting colors of the sky, water, and air at sunset.

After exhibiting the collaborative work in New York, my panel returned to my Clearwater studio, where the painting reached its final form. Gold glimmers were introduced to catch the changing light, and sailboat forms emerged—symbols of passage, alignment, and forward motion. Layers were refined until the composition settled into balance, carrying both the immediacy of the moment and the depth of its journey.

This work was initiated in Tampa, Florida, as part of a collaborative classroom project involving eight children and three international artists: Caroline Karp (USA), Barbara Pastorino (Italy), and Ruth Christensen (United Kingdom).

The original large canvas was divided into three equal sections—one for each artist—allowing the collaboration to continue individually. My panel was further developed during a live plein-air painting event at the Safety Harbor waterfront, responding directly to the sunset and surrounding environment.

The collaborative works were subsequently exhibited in New York, where the project was revealed to a wider artistic community. My panel then returned to Clearwater, Florida, where it was completed in my studio with the addition of gold accents and sailboat imagery.

The painting reflects a journey across places, hands, and moments—uniting collective creation with personal resolution.
